Classically trained in piano from a young age at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, Serena developed a passion for music that ran parallel to her decade-long career in theatre. Her deep experience as an actress continues to shape her musical approach, which—much like acting on stage —involves imagination and total immersion into evocative, emotionally charged worlds. These worlds emerge through harmonic compositions and sculptural sound manipulations, crafted with the precision and sensitivity of a visual artist shaping form from raw matter.

After relocating to the UK to pursue her musical ambitions, she earned a master’s degree in music at Bath Spa University, under the mentorship of producer Davey Ray Moor (Cousteau, Afterhours), and began collaborating with artists such as Dan Brown (Massive Attack), for the early drafts of her first EP.

Lyre made her debut in 2020 with a haunting reinterpretation of PJ Harvey’s Send His Love To Me, followed in 2021 by the EP Queer Beauties, released on PTN Records. The single and video Broken Flowers, where Serena portrayed a two-faced character inspired by the works of Mustafa Sabbagh, was directed by video artist Davide Mastrangelo and premiered in Rumore magazine. The video was named one of the best independent videos of 2021 by Mei Meeting.

The EP received widespread acclaim, with critics describing it as “a small masterpiece, unique in its genre” (Rock On) and praising its “combination of rhythmic violence and vocal fragility, accompanied by a well-curated graphic project… it wouldn’t surprise us to see her on the Club To Club stage in a few years” (Rockit).

During the pandemic, Lyre’s project underwent a significant transformation, developing a more experimental and electronic style as she shifted her focus primarily to sound design and music production. Drawing from a wide range of influences, she blends deconstructed club elements, orchestral textures, and vocal harmonies realized through intricate vocal timbre manipulations, alongside UK bass tones. Her sonic palette is crafted using various sound design approaches including different types of synthesis, sophisticated sample manipulation techniques, and an ongoing exploration of the creative possibilities within every facet of Ableton Live. This evolution represents a crucial phase in her artistic journey, culminating in the solo live set Orphan/Whale and the ongoing production of her debut album Shadows’ Walk,     a sonic landscape shaped not by destination, but by process and transformation.
